The G1 was a landmark - the opening chapter in the Google android operating system’s history. It promised so much and delivered, well, some of it. “The next one will be truly great”, they said. So we waited and finally, HTC pulled the Magic from it’s hat. The phone’s insides are largely the same as those of the G1 but it’s sleek lines are at odds with the G1’s bulk. There’s no hardware keyboard, which helps it’s form if not its emailing abilities, but what you do get is a 3.2in touchscreen, 3.2MP camera, HSPDA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth A2DP audio streaming and compass wielding GPS. Unlike the G1, the HTC Magic Google phone will record video straight out the box, but of course the key to its ultimate success lies in the sterling applications already available on the Android Market. We reckon it’ll soon start to deliver on that lofty Android promise. See Vodafone.co.uk/magic for more apps. As hot as…Jalapeno toothpaste!
Hands-On - Does the Magic happen? We’ve given the HTC Magic Google android phone a good going over and first impressions are resoundingly positive. We found it to be solid, pocketable and very responsive unlike the Blackberry Storm! It’s 3.2in touchsreen is identical to the one found on the G1; that’s a sensible move from HTC considering it’s easily the best we’ve used after the iPhone’s. Without the G1’s fold-out QWERTY, the HTC Magic will live or die on the performance of it’s on-screen keyboard, but we found it perfectly usable, especially in landscape mode. Is it a G1 beater? Almost certainly. A serious iPhone rival? You betcha. Click the link below to find out more about this incredible phone with the exclusive vodafone.co.uk/magic special offer…
